Now available to hire: the Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro EF mount with 7-inch viewfinder, built in ND filters, dual native ISO, live-streaming support built-in, support for the Blackmagic Focus Demand and Zoom demand as well as Tally indicator and ability to record 4k and 6k Braw to SSD. This camera has a super 35mm sensor like the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera 6k Pro and takes the same Canon EF mount lenses like our Canon CNE par focal 18-80 zoom, the Tokina 11-16mm, Tokina16-50mm EF zooms and the Canon 24-70mm and Canon 17-55mm as well as our range of Nikon prime lenses with EF mount.

Studio camera 6k EF mount lens options

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K is designed for live production, but is not limited to use with a live switcher like the ATEM. But when used with a Blackmagic switcher, you can control the camera features including the ND filters from your computer.

The Studio EF camera has no built-in recording, but can record Blackmagic RAW to external SSD drives over USB-C. The large 7" viewfinder makes it perfect for work such as chat shows, television production, broadcast news, sports, education, conference presentations and even weddings. The large bright display with side handles, touch screen and physical controls makes it easy to track shots while being comfortable to use for long periods of time. Because it’s so lightweight, it’s perfect when you're constantly changing locations and doing different kinds of work.

The Blackmagic Studio Camera features gain from -12dB (100 ISO) up to +36dB (25,600 ISO) so it's optimized to reduce grain and noise in images, while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. The primary native ISO is 400, which is ideal for use under studio lighting. Then the secondary high base ISO of 3200 is perfect when shooting in dimly lit environments. The gain can be set from the camera, or remotely from a switcher using the SDI or Ethernet remote camera control. This is similar/identical to the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera 6k sensor.

Blackmagic studio camera connections

The studio camera itself allows you to connect 2 x XLR microphones, plus an external mic as well as having 2 built in mics. There is a headphone socket as well as a 5 pin talkback connection if you have the right kit. There are 2 x usb-c ports with locking connections, allowing you to connect to an SSD or to a focus demand controller.

The 2 channel balanced XLR inputs support +24 dBu line level and have an ultra low noise microphone preamplifier with P48 phantom power alongside an equivalent input noise (E.I.N.) of -131 dBV(A). That's followed by two 117 dB high dynamic range analogue to digital converters, so you get the high-end audio demanded by broadcasters and audio engineers. So no need for a pre-amp.. The XLR supports Phantom power +48V.

Blackmagic studio camera video connections

The other side of the camera has the video connections - there is a 12G SDI connection for connecting into a switcher or monitor or to a wireless connection as well as an HDMI out which can be run at a different rate so you can get 4k 12G as well as 1080 out of the HDMI to suit many wireless connections. There is a 10G Ethernet port which allows all signals and camera power using a single Cat 6A copper Ethernet cable! That includes the camera video, program return, tally, talkback, camera control and more, if you have appropriate connectivity (Blackmagic Studio Converter) to use this.

There are three ways to power the camera - a locking barrel connector for use with DTAP for Vlock power or via the supplied mains lead, or use a 4 pin XLR cable for power, plus POE Ethernet if you are using that method.

The large 7-inch touchscreen has menus for camera settings, and there are physical knobs for brightness, contrast and focus peaking to make it easier under studio use conditions. There is a tripod mount with mounting plate included for fast setup, which includes 15mm rod mount to add-on accessories like a Matt box or mount support for a long lens.

The studio camera supports Blackmagic gen 5 colour science via LUTs, same as the cinema cameras. The colour corrector can even be controlled from the switcher using the SDI return (SDI in) or over HDMI to ATEM mini. With 13 stops of dynamic range, the camera has darker blacks and brighter whites, perfect for colour correction. Great for both HD and Ultra HD production, the 6K model has a resolution of 6144 x 3456 with 12G 4K over SDI and over HDMI. Note: you cannot record in HD on this camera, so the minimum recording spec to SSD is 4K.

Live stream direct from the studio camera

The 6k EF studio camera has built in live-streaming. This means you can place a camera in a remote location, and it can generate a H.264 HD live stream that is sent over the internet back to the studio. Simply connect the camera to the internet using the built-in Ethernet connection, or you can connect a 4G or 5G phone to the USB-C port to stream via remote data. The live stream is received in the studio by an ATEM Streaming Bridge where it's converted back to video for connection to a switcher via SDI or HDMI. The ATEM Streaming Bridge can even send tally, talkback and camera control back to the camera, which is pretty cool!

Why not couple the Blackmagic studio camera with a CNE cine zoom lens with zoom rocker and focus demand controller to create an awesome live camera with braw recording to SSD or via SDI to a hyperdeck mini.
